Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about IMEI checks.
What is an IMEI number?
IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It is a unique 15-digit number that identifies a mobile device on GSM, LTE and 5G networks. The first 8 digits are the TAC (Type Allocation Code) that identifies the model; the last digit is a Luhn check digit.
How do I find my IMEI?
The fastest way is to dial *#06# on the phone — the IMEI appears on screen immediately. You can also find it in Settings → About → IMEI, printed on the original box, or under the battery / SIM tray on some models.
Is the IMEI check free?
Basic device identification from the TAC is free. Deep checks such as blacklist, carrier and SIM-lock status rely on paid third-party data sources, which is where paid plans and the API come in.
What does a blacklist check tell me?
It tells you whether the device has been reported lost or stolen and added to a carrier blacklist. A blacklisted phone can be blocked from network use, so it is essential to check before buying a used device.
What is SIM-lock / carrier lock?
A SIM-locked phone only works with the carrier that sold it under contract. A factory-unlocked phone works with any compatible SIM. The iPhone check reveals the original carrier and lock status.
Is my IMEI data private?
Yes. Lookups are processed on demand and are not stored or shared. We never ask for personal information to run a check.
