How to Find Your IMEI Number on Any Phone (iPhone & Android)

4 min read

Every cellular device has a unique 15-digit identifier called the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity). You need it for blacklist checks, carrier lookups, and warranty claims. Here are the fastest ways to find it.

Method 1 — Dial the secret code

On almost any phone, open the dialer and enter *#06#. The IMEI appears on screen instantly. This works on both iPhone and Android and does not cost anything.

Method 2 — Check in Settings

  • iPhone: Settings → General → About → scroll to IMEI.
  • Android: Settings → About phone → IMEI information (the exact label varies by brand).

Method 3 — Look at the SIM tray or back

On many iPhones the IMEI is engraved on the SIM tray (use a pin to eject it). Older phones printed it on the back; some Android phones still do.

Method 4 — Original box and receipt

The retail box barcode sticker usually prints the IMEI next to the serial number. If you bought the phone new, your email receipt has it too.

Method 5 — Find My / Google account

Signed into iCloud or a Google account? The device list in those dashboards shows each device's IMEI without touching the phone.

Dual-SIM note: Phones with two SIMs have two IMEI numbers (IMEI 1 and IMEI 2). Use IMEI 1 for checks unless the seller tells you otherwise.

What to do once you have it

Copy the 15 digits (no spaces) and run a Full IMEI Check to see device details, blacklist status and carrier info. If you are buying used, also read our guide on checking if an iPhone is blacklisted or stolen.
