How to Prepare Your iPhone for Sale: Remove iCloud & Verify Status

5 min read

A phone that still shows your Apple ID at setup is worthless to a buyer. Before you list your iPhone, make sure it is fully released from your account.

Step 1 — Turn off Find My and sign out

On the iPhone, go to Settings → your name → Sign Out, and disable Find My (Settings → your name → Find My). This removes Activation Lock.

Step 2 — Erase all content

Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Erase All Content and Settings. The device reboots to the hello screen with no account attached.

Step 3 — Verify it is clear

Before you ship it, confirm the lock is gone with the iPhone Activation Lock Check or the iCloud Activation Lock Check.

Step 4 — Check value and warranty

The Apple Warranty by Serial Check shows remaining coverage, which can raise your asking price.

Proof for the buyer: the Full IMEI Check gives a clean report you can share to build trust.

Bottom line

Remove iCloud, erase, and verify the lock is clear before listing. A released iPhone sells faster and for more.
