How to Read an IMEI Report: A Beginner's Guide
An IMEI report can look technical at first glance, but every section answers one simple question: is this phone safe to buy?
Device identification
This section shows the brand, model and sometimes storage capacity decoded from the IMEI. If the report says "iPhone 14 128GB" and the listing claims "iPhone 14 Pro 256GB," something is wrong.
Blacklist status
A "blocked" or "blacklisted" result means the phone was reported lost, stolen or unpaid. Use the GSMA Blacklist Check to confirm before paying.
Carrier and SIM-lock
This tells you which network the phone originally shipped on and whether it is locked to that carrier. A locked phone limits your SIM choices. Check it with the iPhone Carrier & SIM-Lock Check.
Activation / iCloud lock
On iPhones, an Activation Lock result means the previous owner\'s Apple ID is still attached. The iCloud Activation Lock Check shows whether the device is free.
Bottom line
Read the report line by line. Device, blacklist, carrier and lock status must all match the listing before you buy.
